Stop the Violence (STV) – With Leadership, Violence Stops

Stop the Violence (STV)

The Stop the Violence (STV) Project is a community-driven, culturally responsive leadership training and mentoring initiative designed to equip young African Australian leaders with the skills, confidence, and guidance needed to identify, address and reduce youth violence. Delivered under the African Australian Youth Mentoring Program, STV fosters resilience, leadership, and positive pathways for young leaders.

The inaugural program, launched in February 2017, was supported by the WA Police and the Office of Multicultural Interests – Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), with Edith Cowan University serving as the primary implementing partner.

Building on its early success, the program has demonstrated measurable impact, with graduates actively contributing to safer communities and stronger leadership within both the African Australian community and the broader Western Australian society.

As the program evolves, its focus has shifted toward cultivating leadership as a tool for violence prevention. The next phase, “With Leadership, Violence Stops”, emphasizes leadership development, mentorship, and community engagement as key strategies to break cycles of violence and inspire the next generation of change-makers.
